Coastal Garden
Coastal Garden, Kent
Brief: to renew the current planting schemes and provide a design solution to the existing hard landscaping to a coastal garden close to Folkestone in Kent.
Solution: the first area was a gravelled section on a steep slope, overgrown and messy and baked by the sun for much of the day. A lot of the existing plants had failed – wrong plants in the wrong place. After considering these factors, I chose sun-loving, wind tolerant varieties to create an appealing gravel garden, adding grasses to introduce movement, plants with striking seed heads and lavender for its beautiful scent.
The second area was a patio garden, situated at the base of the slope. Wildlife-friendly plants were added to replace ailing and oversized varieties unsuited to the space, including star jasmine, an evergreen climber with pure white flowers and a beautiful honey fragrance.
Overall the design has brought the garden to life, unified the house with its outside area and created an attractive space for the clients to sit out in.
